FAQs
Eye examinations are much more than checks for whether you need glasses - we also carry out a range of tests to assess the health of your eyes. They can help detect problems like glaucoma or diabetic eye disease before you notice the effect on your sight.
Early treatment can often prevent your sight from getting worse - and may even save your sight.

Contact Lenses
- Am I suitable?
-
Most people who wear glasses are able to wear contact lenses, yet in this country only some 5% or so actually do. Some people think contact lenses are too much hassle, too expensive, or both.
Think again - contact lenses have never been simpler and more convenient.
Even if you have worn lenses before and gave up because of discomfort or hassle, it's worth noting that contact lens technology has advanced quickly in recent years. Improved lens design and materials have contributed enormously to greater wearing comfort. The 'hassle factor' - lens cleaning and storage - has been completely eliminated for daily disposable wearers, and much reduced for others by the introduction of simple but efficient one-step cleaning regimes.
This means that former wearers who return to contact lenses usually find it a much better experience than previously. - Where do I start?
-
A Contact Lens Assessment/Trial appointment is needed to establish suitability for lenses, but before this can be undertaken we will need a copy of your most recent spectacle prescription. An eye examination will be required if your prescription is more than a year old.
In the course of the initial contact lens assessment the front surface of each eye and eyelid is closely inspected, and tear quality and quantity is assessed. Accurate measurements are also taken to ascertain optimum lens specifications. You will be taught all you need to know about inserting and removing your lenses, wearing times and how to care for them.
A short trial wear period (1-2 weeks) is then undertaken - successful completion of this and a further check-up leads to registration. Payment for your first supply of lenses is made - price and payment options, as well as arrangements for future supplies, will depend on specific lens type. This will all be explained in detail at the time. Glasses
Children
- Does my child need an eye test?
-
Has your child taken the test?Did you know that children's eye examinations are funded by the NHS? And if glasses are needed we can issue an NHS voucher towards them.
Even if your child appears to be seeing well, their eyes should be examined at least once a year by a qualified Optometrist.
