We are an independent, sole practice optometrists offering a friendly, professional service for all the family.

We are able to perform thorough eye examinations - including glaucoma screening, fundus (retinal) photography and OCT 3D retinal scans - because we strictly limit the number of patients we book in per day.

So whether you are a private or NHS patient, you receive the same level of care and attention from our qualified Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians. Remember, here you are our PATIENT, not our customer.

The Practice

The Hammond Optical Practice was set up independently in May 1997 by husband and wife team Mark and Eimer Hammond BSc(Hons) MCOptom. Mark and Eimer both graduated from City University, London after attaining Honours degrees in Optometry and Visual Science in 1989. After working for a few independent opticians and at the Kent County Ophthalmic and Aural Hospital in Maidstone, they decided that it was time to set up their own independent practice.

Mark and Eimer are supported by receptionists Mrs Ann Hammond (Mark's mother) and Mrs Elewys Colley, and by Dispensing Opticians Derek Griffiths FBDO and Anthony Blackman FBDO CL(Hons) SLD.

Practice Opening Hours

Monday to Friday - 9.00am to 5.00pm
Saturday - 8.30am to 1.30pm

We sometimes close for lunch from 1.00pm to 2.00pm, so please telephone to check on 01580 715008. We occasionally close early for staff training.
